1. Easy to use

You probably don't know how a car works, but you should be able to drive it without any problem. Same for a computer. You don't need to be a computer expert to use it. Just turn it on, touch the screen and get results. Garment options should have pictures so language isn't a barrier to learning it.

2. Complete system for $995

You should be able to get a brand name (i.e.; Dell) computer, invoice printer, cash drawer, touch screen, and software for under $1000. Any more, and that company is selling its stuff for way over retail price thinking dry cleaners don't know any better. But, you don't have to pay full retail. And, the warranty should be at least a year if not longer. Check out this $995 System.

3. Support After the Sale

Everybody hates to pay for support after the sale. The computer companies have to charge for support because they have on going bills like the lights, heating, etc. And computer techs are expensive to have sitting around waiting for you to call. A good company is going to offer at least one option to get FREE support. They should also have options to get you help 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. There may be a charge for after hours support but at least it is an option if you need it.

4. In business over 20 years

One way to tell if a company has been around for awhile is by their phone number. 800 toll-free numbers have been unavailable for over 15 years so any company that has a 1-800-xxx-xxxx number has been in business for over 15 years. 866, 877, and 888 numbers for a company are a sign that they are newer in the business. Also, companies that don't use toll-free numbers are making you pay for the call to buy their stuff - avoid them. Some companies even say 15 years experience - which might mean 15 employees with 1 year experience each - watch out for that.

5. Local, or Internet, its your choice

Some computer companies make you have an internet connection to run their software. Find a company that lets you decide if you want a local database (in your store) or a hosted database (somewhere on the internet/cloud). Both have advantages and disadvantages so you can decide which one is best for you. So, make sure you have a choice of either type of system.
